Evaluating conservation education programs

Sabitri Rai,

I am a Master Graduate in Environmental Science. While conducting “Conservation School” about pangolin and art workshops at three schools of Panauti (Kavrepalanchok), I came to know about the clear the picture with the information regarding the perception of young students along with communities towards pangolin.

Then, as Program associate, I was exposed to the ground reality of illegal wildlife trade while spreading awareness about its consequences to transportation workers in Rasuwagadhi and Araniko highways. It indeed made me realize that conservation literacy is low at the ground. There is no substantial research on the effectiveness of conservation education programs.

Via this Fellowship, I aim to evaluate the effectiveness of the conservation outreach programs in different schools of Chuchure and Gumdel VDCs of Ramechhap regarding red panda as these two places are its favourable habitats. My research is based on bottom-to-up method, whereby conducting conservation education outreach programs on red panda among school students and evaluate it.
